Questions
Why is my phone video sideways?
Phones record in one physical orientation and write a rotation flag into the file. Some players honour it and some ignore it, which is why the same video looks fine in one app and sideways in another. Rotating it here bakes the correction in so every player agrees.
How do I rotate a video 90 degrees?
Select the clip and press "Rotate 90°". Press it again for 180°. Then set the canvas to the new orientation so the frame matches.
Can I straighten a slightly tilted video?
Yes. The rotation slider takes any angle. Note that rotating off-axis leaves triangular gaps at the corners, so you will usually want to scale the clip up slightly to cover them.
What is the difference between rotating and flipping?
Rotating turns the picture. Flipping mirrors it — which reverses text and swaps left and right, so it is the wrong tool for a sideways video.
Does rotating reduce quality?
It forces a re-encode, so there is one generation of compression. At the High quality setting that is not visible.
