Resize Image to Specific Dimensions – Exact Pixel Control
Need an image at exactly 1920 × 1080 px, or 800 × 600 px, or any custom size? Here's how to hit exact dimensions every time.
Many use cases require images at exact pixel dimensions — not approximately, but precisely. Banner ads must be exactly 728 × 90. Social media images work best at 1080 × 1080. Profile photos need 400 × 400. Resizo gives you exact pixel control.
Understanding aspect ratio when resizing
Aspect ratio is the relationship between an image's width and height. A 1920 × 1080 image has a 16:9 aspect ratio. A 1080 × 1080 is 1:1 (square). A 1200 × 628 is approximately 1.91:1.
When you resize to specific dimensions that don't match the original aspect ratio, you have two options:
- Maintain aspect ratio: One dimension is set, the other adjusts proportionally. The image won't stretch or squish, but you may not hit both target dimensions exactly.
- Ignore aspect ratio: Set both dimensions independently. The image stretches to fit. Use this only when distortion is acceptable (rarely for photos, sometimes for backgrounds).
For most cases: maintain aspect ratio and accept slight variation in one dimension, OR crop the image to the target ratio first, then resize.
Common exact dimensions by use case
- HD video thumbnail (YouTube): 1280 × 720 px
- Full HD desktop wallpaper: 1920 × 1080 px
- Instagram square post: 1080 × 1080 px
- Facebook cover photo: 851 × 315 px
- Twitter profile photo: 400 × 400 px
- Open Graph image: 1200 × 630 px
- Standard banner ad (leaderboard): 728 × 90 px
- Standard banner ad (rectangle): 300 × 250 px
- Email header image: 600 × 200 px
How to resize to exact dimensions with Resizo
- Open Resizo in your browser — no account needed.
- Drop your image. The current width and height are shown.
- Enter your target width in the width field.
- If you need a specific height too:
- If the auto-calculated height matches — done.
- If not: disable aspect ratio lock and enter both dimensions manually.
- Select your output format.
- Download the image at the exact specified dimensions.
Dealing with odd aspect ratios
If you need 1200 × 628 and your image is 1800 × 1200 (3:2 ratio), you can't maintain aspect ratio — 1200 × 628 is 1.91:1, which is different. Solutions:
- Resize to 1200 × 628 directly (slight distortion, often acceptable for backgrounds)
- Resize proportionally to 1200 × 800 and crop the top/bottom
- Resize proportionally to 942 × 628 and add padding to reach 1200 × 628
